A: Approximately 1700' of gain over the half-marathon course..
Q:
Can I pre-run the course?A: Sure! This is an easy course to run, entirely on dirt Mulholland. Go to the top of Reseda, turn right, go about 3.5 miles, turn around and come back. When you get back to Reseda continue past on Mulholland until you reach the Nike missile base. Turn around and go back for 13 miles. The actual course will be clearly marked by race day.
A: The course will be marked on race day only! The markings will be chalk arrows on the ground and/or surveyors tape.
A: Even though there is ample support, we recommend you carry a water bottle, especially if it's a hot day.
A: There are no stream crossings for the Valley Crest Half-Marathon.
A: There are rattlesnakes in the Santa Monica Mountains along with other assorted creatures. However, there has never been a reported problem in the run's history. Use caution and always look where you are going. Be careful!
A: Over the years our number one goal is to provide our participants with a highly personal, low key, fun event. We don't want to host a large cattle drive that becomes difficult to manage. Parts of the course are challenging and narrow over a good portion of the course. We don't want our runners to feel boxed in by crowds.
A:You may sign up on race day. However, space is limited, and we will only allow entries until the race sells out. However, we cannot guarantee shirt size or availability for race day entries.
A: No. Registration entries ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE to another person OR DEFERRABLE to another year.
Q:
What are the rules about dogs?A: State Park Rules - NO dogs on trails, and no dogs will be permitted in camp on race day.
A: Since you start and finish in the same place, we recommend leaving any bags you may want in your vehicle. We will have a drop bag area (located near the registration tables) for those who would like to leave dry clothes for after the run. We will provide bags and marking pens and we will NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR VALUABLES or any items not picked up after the race.
A: Awards are three deep in five-year age group divisions, for both male and female.
A: Parking is limited so please follow the instructions of event staff with regard to parking your vehicle, as we are trying to get lots of people as close as possible.
A: In the past it has been cool and overcast, with Southern California "June Gloom" conditions. As always, things could heat up, and you should be prepared to run in warm temperatures.
