2007 Valley Crest 1/2 Marathon Race Report

Race Director's Report

June 10, 2007—What a great race the Valley Crest has become since the inaugral event in 2002. The course was in wonderful condition this year, having been recently graded by the fire department, resulting in some very fast times and a few bloody knees. The 2007 Valley Crest race was again a Trail Runner Magazine Trophy Series Race and was also chosen to be the 2007 Road Runners Club of America State Championship Race.

Many thought that Sal Bautista's course record of 1:16:27 would remain unbeatable, however 36-year old Romualdo Sanchez took an early lead in the race before flying down the mountain to set a new course record of 1:13:47! Sal placed second, with his own PR time of 1:16:26. Luis Ibarra placed third in a time of 1:19:10. Masters Male division winner was two-time former champion Robert Leonardo, who took 5:35 off the 45-49 year age division.

The female runners did not go after any records, however 44-year old Sue Davis won both the Ladies' Open field and the Ladies' Masters field with a time of 1:34:22.

Some runners exploded with new age division records… proof that the Valley Crest Half Marathon is attracting faster runners every year!

The Valley Crest Half Marathon is a great party for us, a chance to reunite with our loyal friends who come each year to support the race by running or volunteering. Larry and I appreciate the support of each and every one of you who come out each year to keep this race thriving. We look forward to seeing you all again at the Bulldog 25K/50K on August 25, 2007.

Happy Trails,
