Please note: A new course was established in 2005, placing the entire course inside Malibu Creek State Park.
In earlier years, there were several variants of the course, some of which crossed Las Virgenes, making another serious climb up and across Stunt Rd. Both loops and out and back routes were tried on that half of the course before settling on an 'in-the-park' run. Permits and conflicts with private property owners made this the best option to keep the race healthy and manageable.
Which course was the hardest? The easiest? That's likely to be a continuing debate. Ask three runners and you'll probably get three different answers. We'll try to provide as much information here as possible, and leave each runner to his or her own opinion!
